I'm Loving Thred Up: Five Reasons Why

So back in the day…like three or four years ago…I started getting into Thred Up. I was upcycling clothes to sell, and I dabbled in making the switch to thrifted clothes. It is really challenging to find good plus size threadz locally at thrift shops, so I was doing a bunch of clothes shopping at Thred Up and Poshmark. I purchased a top from Thred Up, and it arrived soiled and unwashed. There were coils of hair all throughout the shirt, so I had no choice but to throw it out. That ended my love affair with thrifting at Thred UP.

A month ago, I got an idea to create a book of upcycling projects. So I started thrifting again, just to see what’s available and get the low down on online thrifting. This time around, I have had an incredible experience with Thred Up.

Here are five reasons I love Thred Up now!

  1. There are lots of cute clothes available there. I’ve discovered items that I just couldn’t find in the shops I frequent. Some of them might need some upcycling love…which is so my jam anyway! I’ve discovered items I couldn’t find anywhere else, at price tags that make sense.

  2. I ordered a Clean Out Kit, which is for sending in items you don’t love. They either give you a small bit of money, points for discounts and free shipping for the clothes and resell them, or recycle the rest. USPS is picking up the filled bag from my house! It is so easy to set up on Thred Up’s website.

  3. Thred Up has all the bigger brands, and yes…some of the big brands are fairly expensive there. However the selection is really on point. I’m being choosy when I shop there, because if I can get an article of clothing new for less money then that would be my first choice in some cases. In many cases though, the discounts are incredible. Plus the store has huge sales often! You can save items into a favorites list, and then come back when they are running a sale.

  4. They have designer items that are really amazing. And again, those aren’t typically pieces I would see at local thrift stores. The price tags might surprise you however most of the designer items I see there seem only gently used and like they are in great condition.

  5. Buying thrifted is better for the environment than buying new. And reselling or recycling old clothes is also a major win for the environment. I feel good that I’m sending in a Clean Out Kit, and once that one arrives I might order another kit. I get a big win by being able to declutter my wardrobe, and also get discounts on for future purchases.

If you haven’t ever shopped on Thred Up, or if it has been a while…consider giving it another shot. I’m greatly satisfied that I did! Who knows, you might really like the clothes they have and save some money as well!
