Daily Journaling Habit
About eleven years ago I read The Artist’s Way, and it was so close to my heart. I needed to read those words at that time in my life. The biggest take away I got was that writing three pages a day could connect you with what you truly wanted in life. I remember after I had written for a few months, showing up at the page every day. I looked over what I had written and circled topics that kept coming up. “I want to start a blog” kept showing up on that page. I didn’t know anything about how to use a computer and at that time I was not on social media yet. I was nervous to voice my desire out loud for fear that my husband wouldn’t want to help me with it. And yet today I have blogged in one form or another ever since, and I can thank my daily journaling habit for forging a new path for me.
I always throw out my journals once they are filled up. Because they are so private, I don’t want anyone to read them. But it gives me the freedom to write whatever is going on, or whatever I’m thinking of or dreaming up. Everyone needs a space where they can just let it all out, and for me that is my composition book. I buy them in packs of six and at certain times in my life I have gone through a notebook a month! My journals are like my besties, softly embracing me and holding space without judgement at my best and worst, no matter what I’m going through in life.
If you have been trying to make sense of life, or have wanted to vent freely…or even tune into the rhythm of your heart…give daily journaling a try! It might forge some new paths for you in your own life.
