Sew a Spring Flower Dress

It’s been a while! I took a short break from blogging to “feel into” what is next for me, and listen to my heart. I’ve been dealing with some health hurdles, but fortunately I’m coming out the other side of everything ready to take better care of myself. This year has been like going into some kind of black hole, where everything I cared about got compacted and mixed up. I’ve been playing with new ideas! And just having some relaxing time painting and doing introspective arts.

My website might be shifting and changing. I’m still going to be sewing, however I’m starting to go in some new directions. There will still be upcycling, but I’m also going to try to infuse the blog with other things I love to do. Spring is here, and it’s raining pure inspiration!

Here’s how I made this applique dress! Get out some scraps and a bit of yarn, and deck out a dress or jumper to rock this spring.

Draw lines and spirals on a dress, then attach yarn along the lines with a wide zig zag stitch.

Choose some fabric squares in floral and spring patterns. Stack the squares, and cut two inch strips.

To make the fabric flowers: fold a fabric strip in half lengthwise, then sew a long straight stitch along the fold. Pull one thread to gather, then tie a knot in the threads to keep the gather in place. Make as many flowers as you like! Then attach them along the yard lines with a zig zag stitch, sewing around the outer edge of the flowers. Add other applique pieces to your liking on the dress, and a bit of lace if you desire.

There’s only about a month left of Spring! Follow your heart wherever it might lead and do something you enjoy! Don’t be afraid to mix things up, every moment is a chance to do what lights you up if you tune inward and follow your bliss.
