Hi! I’m Kathryn Sturges! I am into eco sewing, watercolor art and visual storytelling.
I got my start upcycling fashion back in 1999! I had a tiny shop in my college town. It was a pipe dream, but the experience of working with my hands would set the tone for my creative life!
This is my ugly mug! 🤪💝 Come find me on Instagram, and say hello!
My Eco Art Journey
I believe in being resourceful, and using what I have in my home studio before buying new supplies. I used to have very few belongings, so I learned how to be scrappy and resourceful. What I have learned over the years is that you don’t have to have much stuff to enjoy the process of creating. Using what you have and thinking outside the box with your materials is good for the environment, creates a happier home that isn’t filled to the brim with stuff, and makes you more creative as you find new uses for your materials.
As an eco artist, I only use non toxic art materials, for my own safety and for the safety of the Earth and animals. I buy second hand fabrics and sewing supplies when I can. I also rarely buy new fabric, and save most scrap materials. One thing I have discovered is that storing materials and being aware of what I have helps me to stop overbuying
I am conscious of how my creative hobbies impact the planet. I slip up sometimes and overconsume and overproduce…but then I take a step back and reassess my overall vision and take steps to get back to my heart and values! The world doesn’t need more “stuff”, and as a maker I tread lightly and notice the impact of the things I make.
welcome to my eco art practice! i hope you find inspiration here that gets you creating!
